The war in Ukraine
Background, progress and lessons learned
The war in Ukraine has been going on since February 24, 2022.
In February 2026, approximately 1,2 million Russian soldiers were estimated to have been killed, wounded, and missing. On the Ukrainian side, the figures are more uncertain, but 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers were reported as killed at the same time, to which should be added all the civilians killed and wounded due to the war and the 4 million Ukrainians who fled to countries in the EU. Approximately 260,000 Ukrainians have fled to the United States and 300,000 to Canada. All in all, losses and human suffering that are difficult to absorb.
It is about a war that is being waged a little more than a hundred miles from our country and a war whose nature has great similarities to the frozen front lines of World War I. Neither of the belligerents has the power or resources to reach a decisive victory over the other.
The Ukrainian people's will to resist is admirable and an example to follow. Once again, it has been demonstrated that a smaller country can withstand a significantly stronger military power.
