Cyber defense – an introduction

SES Subproject Cyber

The increasingly rapid development of information and communication technology has meant staggering progress, but also increasing vulnerabilities through concentration and dependence on society's information and information systems.

States have not been slow to explore and use various tools to achieve political, economic and military advantages, both in peacetime and in armed conflicts.

This paper on Cyber Defense is the Royal Swedish Academy of Military Sciences' attempt to contribute to a Swedish theory-building and inventory of the conditions required in the area, so that we, together with others, can defend our system of governance and the lives and health of the population in an increasingly competitive world.

The publication has been produced within the framework of the Royal Swedish Academy of Military Sciences' project SES, Security in Tomorrow's Europe – Swedish Perspectives. Member Johan Wiktorin has served as editor.

Projects Security policy in tomorrow's Europe – Swedish perspective has been financially supported by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation, without whose contribution the work would not have been possible.
