The Swedish army must be able to handle a broad spectrum of crises. It must be able to operate in both national and Nordic defense, from supporting society during difficult times in peace and in a gray zone to successful armed combat against a qualified adversary, but also be able to participate in international crisis management to protect Swedish interests.
A sufficiently qualified Swedish army contributes not only to the security of Sweden and the Nordic countries, but also to the security of all of Europe. However, continued efforts are required in several areas, such as tactical and operational doctrines, organization, training methods, equipment development, management principles, personnel and skills supply, and logistics. At the same time, the requirement for relevant interoperability in order to be able to cooperate with other branches of defense and the combat forces of other nations must also be taken into account.
European Security – Swedish Ground Operational Perspective describes how these areas could be developed.
The book constitutes the subproject group Ground Forces (Dp Land) report within the framework of the Royal Swedish Academy of Military Sciences' project Security in Tomorrow's Europe – Swedish Perspectives (SES).
