From SV-AR to SMS
The SMS project builds on the extensive work carried out within the SV-AR project (Sweden, Deterrence and Resilience) 2023-2025. The new project takes its starting point from the dramatically changed security policy situation that has characterized the period since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sweden's and Finland's NATO membership, and the accelerating global developments with increased uncertainty about the future of the transatlantic link.
Consultations with the Ministry of Defence, ÖB and MCF indicate that a main issue suitable for KKrVA is the conditions for European defenseSMS therefore focuses on European defense capabilities within and outside NATO in light of global developments, with particular attention to the Nordic-Baltic dimension and plurilateral forms of cooperation.
The project builds on several previous Academy projects that are documented on kkrva.se, partly KV-21 switch, of SESBoth projects have resulted in a number of writings and essays that can largely be downloaded freely via Open Access and the Academy's book store.
