The research and studies conducted by the Academy within the framework of the three-year project “Military Science in the 21st Century” (KV 21) has primarily resulted in ford required to rebuild a Swedish total defense. The work that the academy is now beginning concerns how The resources of the Swedish National Defence should be used appropriately to promote Swedish and European security and how conclusions from this can be incorporated into a coherent Swedish security policy.
Swedish security policy is closely intertwined with broader developments in Europe. Our security does not develop in a vacuum. Sweden's geopolitical location, and the role of the Baltic Sea region in the increasing tension between NATO and Russia, make us militarily strategically significant. Politically, Sweden is a member of the European Union. How we relate to and contribute to Europe's security is an important factor for national security. If Sweden needs to defend itself, we assume that it will be done in collaboration and with the support of others.
Grunder
The Academy will conduct research and studies from 2018-10-01 to 2021-09-30 on the design of security policy and the continued development of total defence in a European perspective. The focus will be on how means and methods should be developed within the framework of the overall security, foreign and defence policy, including how the military and civilian components can and should be used.
The research will be conducted in project form. The project is called Security in tomorrow's Europe – Swedish perspective (SES).
The research is financially supported by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation with a total grant amount of SEK 2.
