Divided we fall – united we stand
Opportunities and challenges of continued Nordic defense integration
The collaboration between the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences and the Swedish National Defence University is of the utmost value. This book is a shining example of the positive outcome of this, where five researchers at the school give their views on possible areas of integration and coordination between the Nordic countries' armed forces with the aim of achieving the greatest possible effect.
The conditions for Nordic cooperation and integration in many important sectors of society are currently favourable, with security and defence policy standing out. This is due to a very serious security situation, where the countries' geostrategic affinity within the framework of transatlantic defence cooperation constitutes a strong incentive for deeper forms of cooperation and integration based on common ground.
The focus of the book is the coordination and integration of the Nordic countries' military means of power. The analyses and proposals made constitute a good basis for in-depth analysis and discussion. This is absolutely necessary based on the overarching aim of achieving the greatest possible military strategic and operational conditions for achieving success in combat, which requires a broad view that extends beyond strictly national starting points. The various chapters in the book contain substantiated thoughts regarding how this can be achieved.
