Sweden and Finland are full NATO members, redrawing the security map in Northern Europe, the Baltic Sea region and the Arctic. But what does this mean in practice? Three senior military leaders discuss what NATO's new northern flank means.
Europe's security order is being redrawn in real time. Russia's invasion of Ukraine not only changed the strategic balance in Europe – it accelerated a historic shift in the Nordic region. For the first time, Sweden and Finland are full members of NATO, fundamentally changing security cooperation in Northern Europe, the Baltic Sea region and the Arctic.
What does this mean for NATO, and how are Sweden and Finland integrated into the alliance? What are the new challenges and opportunities that Europe and the transatlantic partnership now face?
