Can ideologies blow up the EU? Interesting summer reading from the Academy of Military Sciences
Will the EU withstand ideological pressure? That question was asked a year ago in the Academy of Military Sciences' acclaimed anthology "Ideological explosive power within the EU – a security policy threat?" w/ focus on various aspects of politics in the EU and its member nations. Now the Academy presents a second anthology on the same topic, but this time with a bearing on citizens as individuals. The overarching question in “Value changes in a European perspective – Threat to our security?” is still whether ongoing changes in values can have political – and especially security policy – repercussions on cohesion and stability in the EU and NATO. Russia's attack on Ukraine has put the ideological patterns in focus in the debate, not least the elaborate forms of influence Russia has developed against the rest of Europe.
The anthology provides a flash of light on these aspects and on the serious conflict Europe is now facing and seeks to shed light on these issues with the help of researchers and other experts within and outside the Academy. The texts focus on ideological, historical, legal, political science and media policy issues as well as certain types of influence-oriented threats. All the issues have a bearing on value changes, which in various forms can threaten primarily the cohesion of the EU, but they also provide a threatening, value-based relief for Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine.
